Emma's Work

Academic work and research
I am a senior lecturer and researcher, teaching at the University of the West of Scotland. My academic work focuses on equality and inclusive practice in career development and on practitioner-led research. I also work as an associate lecturer for the Open University on modules YXM830 and YXM130, and hold various external examiner and verifier roles.

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and have worked in higher education careers, widening participation, research and teaching roles since 2004. I sit on the AGCAS Research & Knowledge Committee.

Career development professional
I am a Career Development Institute registered professional. I am a member of the Career Development InstituteAGCAS, and IAEVG.  I deliver career development services on a freelance basis as a careers adviser with adults.

Voluntary work
I am an advocate for pupil and parent voice in statutory education, with a focus on primary and early years. I am a member of the board of directors and a trustee of Connect. My focus in my voluntary work is primarily on equity within education and a particular area of interest is support for pupils with additional support needs, dyslexia and speech and language difficulties within Gaelic Medium Education (GME). I am a member of Dyslexia Scotland and have set up and chair the GME branch of their network.

BBC TV: I'm a confident media speaker, available to discuss topics relating to career development, education and training.
